–!> Deadlines are firm and papers must be submitted in hard copy only. Emailed papers will not be accepted.
–!> Length requirements are also firm. Courses satisfying the GE writing requirement are obliged to adhere to minimum standards.
–!> All assignments must be completed in order to receive a passing grade.

House of Leaves close reading (10%) – due in your TA’s mailbox no later than Friday, October 13
     Instructions to be given in lecture. Length: 500 words.

Semiotic analysis (15%) – due in your TA’s mailbox no later than Friday, October 27
     Instructions to be given in lecture. Length: 500 words.

In-class writing assignment on Bartleby (5%) – November 6
     Mandatory attendance

Midterm paper (30%) — due in your TA’s mailbox no later than Friday, November 17
    Questions and topics to be assigned. Length: 1500 words.

SocialBook annotation of Hard Times (5%) – week of November 27
     Instructions to be given in lecture.

Digital bibliography exercise (5%) – due in lecture December 6
     Instructions to be given in lecture. No length requirement.

Take-home final exam (20%) – due in English department no later than Wednesday, December 13, 4:00pm
–!> Short and long essay format; prompts to be distributed on the last lecture of the term.
–!> Exams to be submitted in hard copy only; no emails. We will have a dedicated box to collect all of the exams. If you leave town before finishing you will need to make arrangements with a friend to print and submit the exam on your behalf.
